Our History
Imagine taking a trip to the heart of Sicily, where the passion for beverage production has roots that go back as far as 1951. It was precisely on 11 January of that year when Saimbene Salvatore, a former employee of the Banco di Sicilia, embarked on a daring adventure: he founded the Saimbene company, dedicated to the production of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. In his vision, Salvatore is not alone; at his side is his wife, Orofino Antonina, who with love and dedication joins him in this extraordinary venture.
We are now in 1957, a period of change in which the operational headquarters moved to Licata, a step that marked the beginning of a growth that would not hint at stopping until 1964. But the story of the Saimbene family does not end there.
In 1965, a new adventure began in Caltagirone, where the company continued its journey until 1971. During these years, sons Giacomo and Giovanni, already adults, enter the company dance, bringing fresh ideas and an innovative vision that will breathe new life into the family business.
With a love for tradition and avant-garde management, in 1972 the family decided to set up a new company, POERIO S.r.l., which was joined by their two sons, thus consolidating a reality that perfectly blends experience, innovation and passion. With the expansion of the production facilities and a keen eye on market needs, the company soon became a leader in the sector, expanding at a paradigm-shifting pace.
The journey continues in 1979, when POERIO S.r.l. expands further with the acquisition of a new production site in Syracuse, which will remain an important landmark for the company until 1992.
In response to the growing demand, the construction of a new plant in the industrial area of Caltagirone is started, a work that sees the light in 1993, thus renamed "new Poerio S.r.l.".
Saimbene family’s story took another step when Giovanni's son, Salvatore, decided to move to Australia to immerse himself in the language and culture of the faraway continent. He stayed there for 13 years, honing his industry skills and broadening his horizons. But the feeling of going back to its roots is strong and in 2023 he decides to return to Italy with a new mission: to continue the family business, designing a factory for the production of liqueurs and bitters. This is how Saimbene Salvatore's POERIO BEVERAGE was born, a tribute to the family heritage and tradition accumulated over seventy years of experience in the beverage sector. This new adventure promises to continue the passion for quality liqueurs, paying homage to a heritage that continues to grow and renew itself. Every sip of our products is a celebration of a history full of passion, tradition and dedication, uniting three generations and inviting you all to discover it.
